Farmers! For kids in grades 1-5 who just want to get their hands dirty and experience what it is to be a real farmer. Morning Sessions: 8:30-noon, Afternoon Sessions 1-3:30 p.m. Learn about sustainable farming first-hand through planting and caring for a garden, feeding and caring for animals, including our alpaca, sheep, goats and more. Children will learn how to spot squash bugs, where to look for monarch caterpillars, and how to collect eggs from the chicken coop! Children will delight in games, crafts, and food preparation using veggies straight from the gardens in this delightful and peaceful outdoor farm setting. Youngsters will dabble in all aspects of the farm experience-from planting and harvesting fresh veggies in the garden to feeding our various farm animals. Weekly sessions starting in late June-mid August. We explore farm life, composting, creating a pollinator garden, and adopting the Zero Waste initiative. All Covid safety measures in effect. For animal lovers, there is animal care, feeding, and halter training. As part of our service mission, we will cook a nutritious meal for the Gillespie Center. Participants in grades 6-8 grow the vegetables that they will donate to local food pantries and sell at the program’s Farm’s weekly market.
